Event Details

Austin, TX - On Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 7:30 pm, at the Carver Museum and Cultural Center, 1165 Angelina Street, join My Exotic Other in concert in celebration of their new CD release: "Tether."  Formed by locally-based, but internationally known, saxophonist Paul Klemperer, MEO explores world music blends with the purpose of discovering new combinations and communications between the traditional and the original.  Through My Exotic Other, Paul has assembled a group of musicians from various backgrounds to create joyful and often haunting music that uses sonic images to "tether" us all together.  My Exotic Other CDs, along with Paul’s other persona Manteca Beat, will be available for purchase.

And just before the concert, at 6:00 pm, treat yourself to a special world music workshop/demonstration where “Professor Paul” (drawing from his background in Sociology and Ethnomusicology) will discuss the musical instruments & traditions that he uses in his compositions. The instruments displayed will be used in the 7:30 pm concert. Learn to recognize the percussive beats of the Conga, the strumming resonance of the Sitar, and the distinctive call of the Turkish Zurna. The lecture will include live performance as well as a Q&A session. Kids welcome!

Finally, don’t forget to also treat your taste buds with the delicacies for sale in the lobby from 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm.
